Cooperation with the institutions of the European Union

The Chair for Translation studies has been cooperating with the Directorate-General for Interpretation of the European Commission (DG SCIC), Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences (DG LINC) and interpretation services of the Court of Justice of the European Union for years.

Staff members of the EU Institutions participate in final exams at the Post-graduate Course for Conference Interpreters and assist as trainers during the course – experienced conference interpreters co-teach during some of the classes within the Pedagogical Assistance scheme; DG SCIC and DG LINC also regularly cooperate with the staff of the Chair – interpreting training courses are organised in Brussels, Cracow and at other Polish universities.

The Post-graduate Course for Conference Interpreters also features Virtual Classes – a series of online meetings with staff interpreters of the EU Institutions and both students and trainers from other universities that run interpreting courses; the meetings are hosted with the use of professional videoconferencing equipment. The participants have a chance to test their interpreting skills in virtual presence of EU interpreters. The students of the course may also participate in various remote training mock conferences.

The EU Institutions invite the students to participate in a study visit in Brussels near the end of the course, where they can see how the work of interpreters in the European Commission and the European Parliament looks like. It is a unique opportunity to experience the mode of work in this profession at top level, in an access-all-areas mode.
